The International Student Exchange (ISE) is bringing a world of opportunity to this year’s KidShow! As a proud sponsor of J-1 secondary school exchange programs, ISE has been connecting international students with American host families for over 40 years. Since its founding in 1982, this certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization has provided life-changing cultural exchange experiences to over 30,000 students worldwide.
What is ISE?
ISE is designated by the U.S. Department of State to run its J-1 program with a mission of cultural enrichment and public diplomacy. As a fully listed member of the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET), ISE upholds the highest standards in international student exchange.
Their programs extend beyond hosting foreign students. American high school students can also explore the world through ISE’s study abroad programs, providing them with the opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures and expand their global perspectives.
Why Become a Host Family?
Hosting an international exchange student is a rewarding experience that fosters lifelong friendships and promotes mutual understanding between cultures. According to ISE Area Representative Erika Hester, “It gives the host families and the exchange student an opportunity to learn about each other, and many become like family and stay connected well into adulthood.”
ISE’s dedication to its host families and students makes them stand out. Their Area Representatives provide hands-on support from student arrival to departure, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience. Plus, their 24/7 student services team offers ongoing support for exchange students, host families, and field staff.
KidShow Activities and Engagement
This is ISE’s first year participating in the KidShow Experience, and they are eager to share their mission with families. Attendees can look forward to:
- Tasting International Snacks – A delightful way to experience different cultures through food.
- A Special Raffle – Families who stop by the ISE table can enter for a chance to win exciting prizes.
- Scavenger Hunt Participation – A fun and interactive way to engage with the program.
Make a Difference – Host an Exchange Student
Do you know someone who would make a great host family? ISE is always looking for welcoming, patient, and understanding families who are committed to providing a supportive home for an international student. Plus, if you refer a family that becomes a host, ISE will thank you with a $300 referral reward!
A Mission for a More Connected World
ISE firmly believes that international exchange fosters personal growth, develops future leaders, and builds global awareness. Their goal is to strengthen relationships between students, host families, and local communities, promoting peaceful international relations and greater cultural understanding.
With partnerships in local school districts, ISE ensures that exchange students have the best possible experience, fully immersing themselves in American student life.
