At the June 13 Chagrin Falls Board of Education work session meeting, two businesses were recognized as recipients of the Ohio School Board Association (OSBA) Business Honor Roll. These two organizations are the Council of International Programs USA (CIPUSA) and Lowe’s Greenhouse.
CIPUSA is an international group that brings emerging leaders from other countries to the states to the United States in order to give them firsthand exposure to the American system of participatory democracy and free enterprise. CIPUSA promotes international understanding in global communities through professional development and cross-cultural exchange. This past year, the program worked in partnership with Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools for hosting six Russian delegates. The delegates spent time at the school meeting with students and staff to give them context about the American system of education. “The school district values this partnership as it provides an excellent framework for understanding international education programs and policy as well as connecting our students and staff first hand with emerging leaders from other parts of the globe,” said Superintendent Robert Hunt.
The delegates met with staff members to discuss such topics as: Public education system management at the state and municipal level; Funding for public education systems; Personnel management and educational organizations/management of educational departments and programs; Preparing students for working in the real world; School psychology programs and working with socially vulnerable students (foster/adoptive children and their families); Examples of partnerships with businesses or organizations; and Programs that address the needs of students with disabilities.
The board also recognized Jeff Griff of Lowe’s Greenhouse. Griff spoke to the entrepreneurial class at Chagrin Falls High School to discuss his career and the new expansion of the greenhouse and retail area. A group of students developed a marketing plan to help Griff attract more retail trade for his fresh flower products and the group also produced a commercial for the business.
