The Cardinal Soccer team finished the regular season with a 10-4-2 record, the most wins they have ever had in a season. The Huskies played Tallmadge to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, October 5, beat Cuyahoga Heights Tuesday 2-1, and beat Lawrence on Thursday by a score of 3-1.
Cardinal High School will be hosting a Soccer Sectional Tournament game when the Huskies take on Cornerstone Christian on Tuesday, October 15. This game will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Richard A. Moss Field.
Cross Country team did not compete in any meets this week as they prepare for the CVC Meet at Kenston Saturday afternoon. The girls race will start at 1:00 and the boys race will be at 1:45
Cardinal defeated Fairport on Tuesday to clinch the CVC Valley Division championship. Kaitlin Bean led the Huskies with 13 kills, 4 serving aces, 14 points, and 10 digs. Alyssa Shirkey had 16 kills, 1 solo block and 8 digs. Kayli Staric added 4 kills and 6 blocks. Maddie Bean had 29 assists, 10 points, 4 kills, and 3 digs. Kayla Neikirk took care of things in the back row with 2 aces and 13 points.
The Huskies defeated Newbury on Thursday. Kaitlin Bean led the Huskies last night with 18 kills, 2 blocks, 3 serving aces and 4 digs. Alyssa Shirkey followed suit with 8 kills, 8 serving points, and 9 digs. Kayli Staric came through with 8 kills and 7 blocks. Tia Mastascusa and Hayley Adams added to the Huskies aggressive play with 3 kills a piece while Hayley also served 5 aces and had 4 digs in the back row. Maddie Bean ran the Huskies offense with 29 assists, 4 aces, 10 digs, and even got 3 kills of her own. Let’s not forget about the dynamic duo in the back row; Becca Klein and Kayla Neikirk. The Newbury Black Knights couldn’t find many spots open on the floor to hit with Becca collecting 18 digs and Kayla with 9 digs. Neikirk also had a team-high 9 serving points.
The Huskies finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record in the CVC Valley Division and their first league title since 2006 when they were co-champs with Berkshire. The last outright league title came back in 2000. The Huskies lost only 1 set in their Valley Division games all season.
The Huskies start tournament play on Thursday, October 17, at Labrae High School. Game time 5:30 pm.
The football team fell to 3-3 with a loss to Kirtland last Friday. Cardinal hosts Newbury this Friday in their Homecoming game.
