Want to Go on a Treasure Hunt?

Registration required for four-park autumn cache extravaganza

Even though Geauga Park District has posted new geocache coordinates for years, participants have been clamoring for more. Ask and ye shall receive! The fourth Geocache Day of 2013 will take participants to four more parks – those in the southwest of the county – in a single day of treasure hunt fun!

What: Geocache Day: Fall

When: Saturday, October 26 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: The West Woods Nature Center, Lobby
9465 Kinsman Road (Rt. 87), Russell Township

Geocaching is an up-and-coming challenge activity that gets you outside using your GPS to help locate hidden caches. Upon registration – required by phone at 440-279-0894 – you will be assigned a card, such as a King of Clubs, that you will need to retrieve from each of the caches. Four cards tell us you located all four hiding spots and earn you four chances to win prizes. If your schedule doesn’t allow you to hit all four parks, earn a ticket for each card you turn in by 4 p.m.

A complete set of instructions will be posted beginning October 19 on the Bulletin Board, so you can start to collect your cards any time after that, but your quest must end at The West Woods Nature Center between 1 and 4 p.m.

In the end, fall Geocache Day participants will have visited Beartown Lakes Reservation in Auburn Township, Frohring Meadows in Bainbridge Township, and The Rookery in Munson Township, and The West Woods in Russell Township.

Anyone school age or older is welcome to participate in this free, family-friendly activity. However, caches will be placed off trail so this activity is not wheelchair/stroller accessible. With questions, call 440-286-9516.
