Celebrate The Sun in our Parks

Summer solstice to include evening at Observatory Park, cave stroll, hound hike

When it comes to the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, Geauga Park District always has plenty of ideas to help you enjoy that extra time, and Saturday, June 21, 2014,  is no exception.

Join us between 6 and 9:30 p.m. at Observatory Park for an all-ages afternoon of solar activities with Astronomy Naturalist (Astro-Nat) Chris Mentrek. Among activities, try your hand at solar cooking, race a solar-powered toy car, and view the sun safely, then stick around after 9 p.m. to witness the latest sunset of the year.

If you’d rather visit The West Woods, you can experience and sights and sounds of the woodlands from 7 to 9 p.m. along the Ansel’s Cave Trail, culminating in a magical encounter with Ansel Savage himself!

And to start your celebration in the morning, enjoy a Hound Hike with your favorite canine from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Frohring Meadows. Dogs must be one per owner, non-aggressive, and kept on an eight-foot-maximum leash at all times. Please bring dog towels, a water bowl and bags for dog clean-up.

Registration is required for the Hound Hike only at 440-286-9516 or under Find a Program/Event. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.
