Emily Dingman Qualifies for State Competition in the Power of the Pen

Berkshire would like to congratulate Emily Dingman who competed with over 750 of Ohio’s most inspired creative writers at last week’s State Power of the Pen competition in Wooster, Ohio. To qualify to compete at the state level, Emily attended a district level writing competition against many local schools where she won a coveted “Best of Round” award for her humorous and delightful story. Emily then qualified for Regionals where she managed to rank in the top 30% of writers. Congratulations Emily!

FABLab comes to Burton Elementary

The FABLab from the Great Lakes Science Center arrived May 27, 2014 with a number of planned activities for the week for all of the students at Burton Elementary. We are collaborating with Kinetico and Great Lakes Growers to build a filtration system for the green house attached to Burton Elementary. The green house will have plants grown in the soil and using hydroponics.

Andrea Lane

Andrea Lane, a trainer and technology consultant for Fablab technologies and student at Lorain Community College majoring in Mechanical Engineering, began the week addressing students in the gym.

Students participated in a variety of activities including building a compost hut. Here 1st grade students are attaching stickers to the green house with Andrea.
