Chagrin Falls High School Presents the “Grant Wilson Memorial Art Show”

Chagrin Falls High School Art Department presents the “Grant Wilson Memorial Art Show” in the Chagrin Falls High School Performing Arts Center lobby from April 26th through May 5th. Wilson lost his life in a car accident this past December. He was a senior at Chagrin Falls High School, known for always being positive, courteous, friendly and a talented artist.

Approximately 35 drawings and sketches, 20 sculptures, and a handful of jewelry pieces will be on display. The artwork is not only representative of Grant Wilson’s 3-D work he created at Chagrin Falls High School as a student, but also small illustrations and sketches he completed in his free time.

“This show’s purpose is to celebrate Grant’s connection with art, while exhibiting his development and creative growth as an artist,” said Art Teacher Libby Harrold.

“Compiling Grant’s work in one space gives us the opportunity to truly grasp his vision, passion, and love for art making.” Students Zach Spear, West Potter, and Parker Wouters created a poster to promote the art show.

Wilson’s portfolio classmates also will be exhibiting a ceramic relief tile mural that they have been working to complete this semester. Students will present and discuss this work at the opening on Wednesday, April 26th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The mural illustrates a guitar and combines Grant's passion for both music and art.

“As Grant was working on his AP concentration body of work, he often studied anatomical models (skeleton, skull, and heart models) from which he borrowed from the science department,” said Harrold. “We will be purchasing various models to forever use in the 3-D classes. The Wilson family donated Grant’s dremel tool for me to use with my jewelry students. I plan to purchase additional dremels to work towards building a class set. These are just a few examples of how the money is being used from this art show.

The Wilson family encourages that donations continue to be made in their son’s honor to the Chagrin Falls High School art department.
