Congratulations to the Chardon High School varsity baseball team on its phenomenal season posting a 24-10 season record that culminated with a thrilling 8-5 Division II State Championship win over Archbishop Hoban High School on Saturday evening at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio. This marks the first state championship in school history.
Hard work, talent, and perseverance highlighted this season for the Hilltoppers. The many hours spent in practice and training to develop the fundamentals and refining the necessary skills combined with a commitment to teamwork that develops over a period of months in preparation for these competitions is commendable. “Our student athletes and coaches demonstrated perseverance and teamwork tonight in shaping a memorable victory that establishes a new standard for Hilltopper baseball, ” stated Superintendent Michael Hanlon.
In addition, the guidance of our coaches led by Varsity Head Baseball Coach, Brian Long, was an integral component of the success of the Hilltoppers this year. The entire staff remained committed to the development of the student athletes on the team and were integral to their success in many critical moments during the stretch run of the playoffs. Their importance to the success of the team was evident as the Hilltoppers continued along this historic run.
It is important to acknowledge that the success of a team takes a supportive community. As we take this time to applaud the team’s student athletes, Coach Long and the assistant coaches, we also want to thank our dedicated baseball parents, the Chardon Athletic Boosters, G-TV, Pastor Photography, community sponsors, and the many families and additional adult volunteers who help in a myriad of ways throughout the season to support the team.
Chardon Schools looks forward to formally recognizing the student athletes and the coaches at the district’s upcoming Board of Education meeting on June 20, 2022.
