SkillsUSA Ohio Championships
Seven Chardon students competed in the 70th annual SkillsUSA Ohio Championships held May 3-4 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The state-level competitors, comprising both first- and second-year Auburn Career Center students, advanced to this elite tournament following strong performances in their respective areas of expertise at regional contests earlier this spring.
At the state championships, students competed on teams in different skill and leadership contests. Hilltopper seniors Alex Johnson and Evan Wolcott were part of a four-member ACC team that earned silver in the Teamworks Construction event.
Chardon state-level competitors also included CHS senior Selma Nyberg (Allied Health Technology); junior Rylan White (Architecture Project Management); senior Norah Hardesty (Cosmetology); and juniors Kason Greenwood and Dylan Jenkins (Criminal Justice and Security).

Career-Based Open House
Businesses and community members are invited to attend an open house hosted by Chardon High School’s CREW career-based program on May 18 from 6pm-8pm at 151 Chardon Avenue. The CREW, which is co-advised and co-taught by faculty members Kim Butala and Tracey Britt, is a one-of-a-kind career-based learning platform designed to help students make a plan for their future.
Through this learn-and-earn program, students gain a breadth of working experience via partnerships with local businesses and organizations, ultimately acquiring industry-recognized credentials prior to graduation.
The May 18 open house will showcase the CREW’s mission, including how the program can train students to fill the skills gap happening in our community and how the program offers opportunities for local businesses and community organizations to work collaboratively with the CREW.

Community Preview of After Prom
The community is invited to walk through Chardon High School (151 Chardon Avenue) on May 14 7pm-8pm to enjoy a preview of the decorations the Chardon After Prom volunteer committee has worked so diligently on in preparation for the night’s highly anticipated, themed event — Game Night!
Chardon After Prom’s Game Night! is scheduled for CHS seniors and juniors later that evening when students will enjoy a night of refreshments, games, prizes and music following the senior prom.
Many community businesses and organizations have generously supported the funding of After Prom 2022. Stop by to get an early preview of the fun students will be having.
Crescendo Club Launches Annual TAG Days
Chardon Crescendo Club’s spring fundraiser — TAG (Thank a Giver) Days — is underway via an online format that runs through May 13. The Club is a non-profit organization that exists to enrich the district’s K-12 music program, providing funding for new instruments, band and choir uniforms, music technology, supplemental education, and many other program needs.
