Here’s a great outing idea for a little group of your brave trusting friends. After getting into your car, have them put on blindfolds and tell them, “No peeking!” Drive over to Country Arts and Jewelry on Nauvoo Rd in Middlefield. Lead them out one by one until they are all inside facing away from any windows or inside signs that may reveal where they are – then have all take off their blindfolds. Stand back and enjoy their initial reactions as they find themselves suddenly surrounded by sights, sounds, and fragrances that will have them guessing if they have just been jetted into another culture; a culture of Southwest Native Americans. Then be prepared to spend at least an hour hunting through the many genuine Native American articles and digging up relics in every corner, rack, and wall of this jam-packed store. It will be an experience they won’t soon forget!
I have visited this unique shop many times over the years. Owner Carol Wenner has done an outstanding job of constantly offering her customers a vast variety of authentic Native American jewelry and artifacts including a large selection of gorgeous turquoise which has been extracted from 15 mines throughout the United States. Sacred White Buffalo and Wild Horse – both of which are a beautiful white turquoise – can be found here. Sterling silver and gold fans will not be disappointed either; plenty to feast your eyes on. Their bead shop is chock-full of gemstones, crystals, shells, pearls and who knows what else for those who are makers of their own fashionable jewelry pieces. While the front of the shop is largely devoted to jewelry and jewelry-making items, moccasins, pottery, blankets, and other traditional Native American arts and crafts decorate the walls and shelves as well.
The back of Country Arts and Jewelry is home to many larger finds; carved and stuffed animals, framed artwork, western and wildlife themed clothing, skins, antler baskets, lamps, and Amish crafted goods. Add comfort and warmth to your home with decorative pillows, throws, and rugs. Such a plethora of incense, candles, aromatherapy items, glassware, and figurines occupy every nook and cranny that your head will be spinning by the time you leave!
What a great place to shop for that hard-to-buy-for person on your holiday list!
Country Arts and Jewelry has been in Geauga County as a family owned and operated business since 1989. Visit them yourself to experience the culture of Southwest Native America without spending hundreds of dollars in airfare!
