EARTH DAY DRIVE-THROUGH
Register for Geauga Park District’s Socially Distant take on this Annual Celebration
Of course we encourage you to live every day like Earth Day – but for the actual Earth Day, we like to do something a little extra special.
Geauga Park District’s Natural Resource Management staff invites you to celebrate Earth Day safely and locally through its free, outdoor Earth Day Drive-Through slated for Thursday, April 22, at The West Woods!
Participants need only register per vehicle, not per person, in advance at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org under Programs & Events or by calling 440-286-9516. Time slots are each 15 minutes long and currently available from 12:15 through 1:45 p.m.
Giveaways will include free native prairie plants and wildflowers such as common and swamp milkweed, gray-headed and purple coneflower, cup plant and rosinweed. “These were chosen to encourage residents to plant these native additions to their home gardens,” said Park Biologist Paul Pira, “which will provide native pollinators with preferred host plants and nectar sources.”
Also, Geauga Park District staff will distribute native tree and shrub seedlings including white pine, red oak and buttonbush; representatives from the Native Plant Society of Northeast Ohio will have garden plants to give away; and giveaway bags will include informational literature and child-friendly materials enough for each vehicle to make one pine cone bird feeder (using 100% peanut and nut-free Wowbutter). It’s likely there will be enough supply for the distribution of a few plants/trees per vehicle.
The West Woods is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. With questions, please call 440-286-9516.
