It’s that time of year when families are looking for indoor activities for their children where they will stay active, have fun, and maybe even try something totally new.
Chery’s Gymnastics and Beyond in Auburn is a place where you can find all of these!

Chery Bessette, owner and director, has taught gymnastics since 1982. After four years of competing, she became a director for a gym club in Louisiana for three years, then returned to become head coach of the Kenston High School gymnastics team for four years. She directed the Auburn/ Bainbridge Recreation gymnastics program for 15 years and was head coach for the Geauga Y.M.C.A. gymnastics team from 1989-2006 producing many individual champions. Chery is a professional member of the U.S. Gymnastics Federation, safety certified by them, has been certified in CPR and first aid for many years and was previously an emergency medical technician. And if that isn’t enough, she is a U.S. Army Veteran (and gives military discounts), is also a volunteer naturalist for the Geauga Park District, and a storyteller of Native American Folklore!
At Chery’s you’ll find gymnastics classes for children beginning at 18 months all the way through high school. Both recreational and competitive team programs are available.
Preschool through age 7
Chery has a large selection of classes available for children beginning at 18 months through 7 years. For the very young, learning colors, shapes, numbers and movement patterns on small-scale gymnastics equipment are part of the instruction. Theme oriented sessions make learning fun. And they’ll take home more than just learning gymnastics – they’ll gain confidence, self-esteem, and independence!
Mom/Dad Totnastics: 18 Mos – 3yrs (w/parent). Learn the basic (age appropriate) gymnastic skills and movements patterns on small scale equipment.
Pre-Gymnastics classes: Children ages 3 – 7 can participate in many options including levels I – III, combination classes, and advanced as well as Pre-Team Minis. Check the website for prerequisites that may apply.
School age children from 7 – 18 years old
Chery’s offers beginner, intermediate, and pre-team classes plus compulsory team and optional team competition for those interested.
Beyond Gymnastics

Movin’ Together: Join your child as they dance to music with horses, scarves, a parachute and more! They will lean balance, rhythm, and more in a fun and structured setting.
Family Open Gym Time: Enjoy family fun together exploring our gym!
Open Gym with Parent: For children with special needs and mobility limitations.
Alphabet Art: Learn letters and their sounds along with other words by creating artistic projects.
Little Dancers I & II Introduce basic ballet along with correct techniques and flexibility exercises.
Ball Sports: Children will enjoy using a variety of objects to help them gain the dynamics required for hand, eye, and foot coordination used in sports.
Tap & Ballet: Introduce children to the basics of ballet and tap.
Mini Trampoline & Tumbling is taught by a national and world champion in trampoline and tumbling.
Floor Tumbling is for both boys and girls who would like to expand their tumbling skills on the floor from cartwheels, rolls, back handsprings to front tucks along with mini trampoline skills.
Martial Arts & Swords includes a variety of martial arts, but the core curriculum will be Chon Sul Kwan Hapkido, a form of self defense, taught by a certified 5th degree black belt. Kenpo, Jujitsu, Jeet Kune Do, boxing techniques, training drills with Kata Swords, and ground fighting with Jiu-Jitsu/Chon Sul Kwan give opportunity to earn belts.
Theatre Dancing incorporates a variety of dance types including ballet, tap, jazz, and jitterbug choreographed to classic tunes. Excellent dance experience for school musicals! No previous dance experience needed.

Personalized Yoga is a gentle yoga class that goes over the fundamentals and benefits of yoga for those who need to improve strength, flexibility, well being. If yoga is recommended by your doctor, this class is very individualized for specific health issues.
Hip Hop introduces students to fundamentals of jazz and hip hop through floor and center work with focus on proper techniques and performance quality movements. No prior experience necessary.
Chery’s Gymnastics and Beyond holds summer camps each year for recreation and team gymnastics along with a theater, dance, and tumbling camp. They also host birthday parties!
