Former Cardinal Coach to Be Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Verno_1970sThe Cardinal Local School District is pleased to announce that Coach Paul Verno has been selected to the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association’s (NEOBCA) 2016 Coaches Hall of Fame Class.

Coach Verno is one of six Hall of Fame inductees for this year. While at Cardinal, Verno’s coaching career spanned three decades. He spent 34 years as the Huskies baseball coach, compiling a career record of 423 wins and 197 losses from 1955- 1989. In that time, Verno’s teams won 15 conference championships, and brought home the district championship in 1973.

Coach Verno also served as head football coach at Cardinal for 31 seasons and was Athletic Director from 1954-1989. He was inducted as a charter member of the Cardinal High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. Cardinal’s baseball field is named in his honor. Coach Verno will be inducted at the NEOBCA All-Star game on Tuesday, June 21, at Canal Park in Akron.
