Is it time for a little getaway and not a full blown vacation? Memories and Moments Travel has some ideas for you!

Priory Hotel in Pittsburgh

If your idea of a great getaway includes a big city, theater, fine dining and a lot of night life, then Pittsburgh is the place to be! And we have the PERFECT location for your stay!

The Priory is now placed on the top of my list for places to stay for the quick getaway. It is top notch all the way, from the accommodations to the staff to the management. And talk about unique – it is a former Benedictine monastery! It is not every day that you will get the chance to stay in a location filled with so much history.

This is the perfect location if you want to visit the city, but don’t want to stay in the heart of the city and don’t want to drive to the city. They provide a shuttle with wonderful, knowledgeable drivers that will drop you off in the city; and when you are ready to be picked up, you simply call!

A light breakfast was included in our stay and was very good. The rooms are grand without being pretentious. With it’s elegant setting, you will feel like you are being transported to another era, yet you will feel at home at the same time.

We are setting up a group package with the Priory for a weekend in December. The package will include:

  • a room for two for one night
  • two tickets to see the Christmas Carol
  • a $60 dinner voucher for a local restaurant
  • breakfast the next morning

All for a very reasonable price! For more details and to reserve your spot, please call Laura at 440-298-1427. Space is limited.

For those of you planning your wedding, The Grand Hall at the Priory is a gorgeous venue. Contact us to set up your wedding at this unique location.

Watkins Glen State Park & the Gorgeous View Motel

If the city is not what you are looking for and you desire a more relaxing location, another great getaway is a few hour trip to the Finger Lake Region in New York. Just returning from Watkins Glen, NY, I can say that we found breathtaking views and relaxing areas around every corner.

Finger Lakes Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen sits at the southernmost point of Seneca Lake. It is the home of Watkins Glen State Park which hosts 19 separate waterfalls. That’s right… 19 waterfalls in one park! And if that is not enough waterfalls for you, there are many, many more in the area. One day, we even went on a waterfall hunt on which we found at least 10 more; and there are still many others.

You’ll also find wineries is abundance. Most of these offer leisurely tastings and some offer tours as well. To set up your own winery tour weekend, please call us for more details.

For those that are looking for adventure, besides the hundreds of steps you will need to climb at Watkins Glen State Park, this is a wonderful location for kayaking (our sport of choice), biking, hiking, boating, and so on.

Keep in mind the accommodations in the area are mostly of the mom and pop motel variety…family owned and passed down from generation to generation. A nice alternative to the large chains. We had the pleasure of staying at the Gorgeous View Motel in Watkins Glen. The commitment by these owners to customer service and cleanliness is, I am sure, the reason its reviews are so high.

This, for sure, is a kick back to the 60s. I say that as a positive thing and with the upmost respect. Out of all of the locations that I have traveled to, this has to be one of cleanest I have seen. Their housekeeper Lisa was amazing and very friendly! The room is basic, but in this location, that is all that you need as you are spending the days exploring.

With the owners living right next door and the coziness of the rooms, you will feel like you are staying with family. The view is gorgeous….hence the name. Every morning I was able to open the drapes to see the sun rising over Seneca Lake!

This is the perfect location for an extended family or friend getaway…call us today to get you set up at your own Finger Lake retreats.
