Anyone who has children or grandchildren knows how expensive it is to get them ready to begin the school year. According to an article published by CNBC in July of 2016, parents of elementary school students could expect to spend $659, parents of middle school students could expect to spend $957.00, and a parent of a high school student could expect to spend more than $1,498.00. While the actual costs vary depending on your community, it is clear getting a child ready for school is expensive.
Celebrating our eleventh year, Geauga County Job and Family Services is pleased to sponsor, Help Me Learn Day, a fun and worthwhile school supply distribution program that assists low income children and foster children in Geauga County. All of the school supplies collected for this program come from community donations, so your support is vital.
Two separate Help Me Learn Days are planned. The first will take place at Geauga Co. JFS on August 8th and the second at Chagrin Falls Park Community Center on August 10th. Children and their parents are invited to Geauga JFS or Chagrin Falls Park where volunteers will help the children “shop” for their school supplies. Families must pre-register and demonstrate a financial need to qualify.
In addition to offering school supplies, Geauga Co. JFS is partnering with Morning Star Friends Church, LaBarberia Institute of Hair, and Marci Mondello-King of Marci’s Hair on the Square to provide school clothing and haircuts for children. The Back to School Clothes Closet and Cuts for Kids will provide eligible families with an opportunity to “shop” for gently used clothes for the upcoming school year. LaBarberia Institute of Hair and Marci Mondello-King of Marci’s Hair on the Square will provide haircuts. Both events will be held on August 8th (Help Me Learn Day) at Morning Star Friends Church, 12550 Ravenna Rd., Chardon about 1 mile from Geauga JFS. Vouchers from JFS are required to participate.
