Chickagami Park – Hikes for active seniors 1 to 1 ½ miles long. Naturalist led. Call Geauga Senior Center for full schedule, 440-279-2137. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Treasures Among the Trees Flea Market

Saturday, July 15th, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Join Geauga Ohio Horseman’s Council for an annual favorite, perusing dozens of vendors selling treasures of all kind! Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Lake Kelso Kayak

Saturday, July 15th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve – Spend a morning on the tranquil waters of Lake Kelso enjoying the wildlife and surroundings. Basic kayaking skills required; instruction not given.  Registration opens June 8. Registration required. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Fairy Candle Foray

Sunday, July 16th, 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Swine Creek Reservation, Lodge Parking Lot – Take a magical early morning hike in a sunlit ravine in search of fairy candles, the flowers of black cohosh, while being serenaded by songs of summer birds. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Adventure Day Camp Before Care

Monday, July 17th – Friday, July 21st, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

The West Woods – Fee: $25 – Optional before care is available for campers enrolled in this week of camp at an additional fee. Call 440-286-9516 for details and to register your camper for this service. Registration required.

Adventure Day Camp (Youth entering grades 5-7)

Monday, July 17th – Friday, July 21st, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Fee: $150 – Are you adventure ready? Sign up for an exciting week of exploring, biking, kayaking, fishing, sending rockets high into the sky and more. Each day begins and ends at The West Woods Nature Center, with transportation provided to other parks for various activities with highly qualified staff. Schedules and required waivers sent after registration. Bring lunch, water and a raincoat in a backpack each day; other equipment is provided by the fee. Optional before care will be available at an additional fee for campers enrolled the weeks of July 17th and 31st. Scholarship sources available. Senior Day: Kayaking

Wednesday, July 19th, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Headwaters Park, Boathouse – Seniors, start the morning with a pancake breakfast, then enjoy the water by kayak. Tours of the trail will also be given on the EZ Go Cart. A collaboration with Geauga Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Registration required. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Invasive Plant Workshop

Saturday, July 22nd, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Natural Resources Tech Joel Firem explains the different invasive species invading the park system and surrounding areas. Head outside to identify them. A joint program with the Native Plant Society. Registration required. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Geauga Cemeteries: History Written in Stone

Saturday, July 22nd, 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

South Newbury Cemetery, Rt. 44, Newbury – A cemetery is more than cold stones and the dearly departed; it is a history museum, wildlife refuge, botanical garden and art gallery. Come explore history with us, then stay afterwards as the Northeastern Ohio Chapter SAR honors Revolutionary War soldiers buried here with an Honor Guard grave marking ceremony. Held as part of the Newbury Bicentennial. Registration required. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Nights Out in the Parks: Movie Night

Saturday, July 22nd, 8:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

Observatory Park – View the recent live-action Disney film “The Jungle Book” at your International Dark Sky Park! Pre-show animal habitat activities begin at 8:00 p.m.; movie at dark. Free popcorn and lemonade. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. The Hunger Squad food truck will be onsite – so make it a dinner-and-a-movie night! – as well as the Geauga County Public Library Fun Bus. Night sky viewing after the movie, weather permitting. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.
