Flying Jewels Dragonfly Kayak (Ages 12+ w/adult)

Sunday, July 23rd, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve – Get eyeball-to-compound-eyeball with some of our most colorful insects, the dragonflies and damselflies of Lake Kelso. Basic kayaking skills required; instruction not given. No private boats permitted.  Registration opens July 16. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.

Adventure Day Camp Before Care

Monday, July 24th – Friday, July 28th, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

The West Woods – Fee: $25 – Optional before care is available for campers enrolled in this week of camp at an additional fee. Call 440-286-9516 for details and to register your camper for this service. Registration required.

Adventure Day Camp (Teens entering grades 8-10)

Monday, July 24th – Friday, July 28th, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Fee: $150 – Are you adventure ready? Sign up for an exciting week of exploring, biking, kayaking, fishing, sending rockets high into the sky and more. Each day begins and ends at The West Woods Nature Center, with transportation provided to other parks for various activities with highly qualified staff. Schedules and required waivers sent after registration. Bring lunch, water and a raincoat in a backpack each day; other equipment is provided by the fee. Optional before care will be available at an additional fee for campers enrolled the weeks of July 17th and 31st. Scholarship sources available. Grandparents Summer Picnic

Tuesday, July 25th, 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Big Creek Park, Maple Grove – Grandparents and grandchildren, enjoy a day in the park together with a picnic and Nature activities in collaboration with the Chardon Senior Center, which provides hot dogs. Please bring a dessert or side dish to share. Registration required. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Geauga Walkers

Tuesday, July 25th, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Sunnybrook Preserve – Hikes for active seniors 1 to 1 ½ miles long. Naturalist led. Call Geauga Senior Center for full schedule, 440-279-2137. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

West Woods Wednesdays Farm Market

Wednesday, July 26th, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Purchase locally made/grown items at The West Woods the last Wednesday of each month through September! Visit for details. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Maple Town Tune Traders

Thursday, July 27th, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

The West Woods – All genres, instruments and skill levels welcome. Come to play, sing or simply enjoy as audience. Snacks to share welcome. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Living History Hike: Ansel Savage

Saturday, July 29th, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Take a hike to Ansel’s Cave with Ansel Savage himself as he mysteriously appears to recount his days of yore in The West Woods! Held as part of the Newbury Bicentennial. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Nights Out in the Parks: The Legacy Band in Concert

Saturday, July 29th, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Big Creek Park – Come out as The Legacy Band performs oldies, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, Motown and country for your listening and dancing pleasure. Held indoors if inclement weather. Refreshments served. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

All About the Brook Trout

Monday, July 31st, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Bass Lake Preserve, Lodge – Get an up-close look at Brook Trout by netting, then learn the story of Geauga’s own wildlife miracle: the discovery, protection, propagation and ecology of Ohio’s only known native Brook Trout population. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.
