National competitions are pretty big deals. I think most of us hold those who make it that far in high regards, especially if they are an individual who had to do all of that hard work by themselves. To achieve a national level of recognition for this personal accomplishment is impressive. But what happens if you make the cut and realize you can’t afford the travel and lodging? Here’s what one family is doing….and you’re invited!
Roller Skating Benefit Night
for
Kim Zahl
May 14, 2014
6:30 – 8:30 pm
Kim Zahl has been chosen to compete in the Special Olympics in Princeton, New Jersey held in June.
Money is being raised to cover expenses for her and her family. She has been competing in Special Olympics for 30 years! She has an amazing 248 medals of which 117 are gold. Though her favorite sport is bowling, which she has been selected to compete in this year, she has also medaled in track and field events, swimming, and golf.

“Every state in the United States will be sending athletes. Ohio is sending 65 of which only 4 are bowlers,” shares Kim’s mother, Jackie. “Her average is 120 – 140 depending on the bowling alley.”
How has being a part of the Special Olympics for so many years positively influenced Kim’s life? “Kim has a lot of confidence in her everyday activities,” shares Jackie. “She has made a lot of friends throughout the state.”

And now she has the chance to make new friends from all over the nation! But first, we have to help get her there. And what a fun way to do so by attending this benefit at the roller rink. Meet Kim and her family, roller skate, eat, be part of the raffles and games.
“This trip is especially sentimental as Kimberly lost her father (and bowling coach) very suddenly a little over a year ago. He dedicated many years to coaching and would have liked nothing more than to see his only daughter SHINE at Nationals!” says Marianne Zahl.
Come be a part of this fundraising party! Make plans to attend for a few minutes or for the whole two hours. Whether you skate or not, there will be plenty to do. Bring $5.00 for admission and rent skates for $4.00.
