JOIN US TO PROMOTE “PICNICS IN THE PARK” – Geauga Park District welcomes collaborations with local restaurants

Have you ever wondered how many times your menu found its way into a local park? How many times has someone grabbed takeout from your restaurant and picnicked in the park?

Geauga Park District’s 27 parks have proven a special place to enjoy a meal with family and friends. The parks’ reservable 12 lodges and 18 shelters host weddings, birthday parties and other special events, catered or not, while its less formal picnic areas are a quaint place for family and friends to gather with their favorite local food and beverage.

In 2020, many sectors of the food, beverage and hospitality industry were impacted by COVID-19, and many providers quickly adapted to takeout menus to offset the lack of in-person dining.

Now, in 2021, starting May 1 through October 31, in an effort to help jump-start local restaurants, Geauga Park District would like to feature your food and beverage takeout menu as available to-go “Picnics in the Park.” Let’s collaborate over food, beverage and the Great Outdoors!

Local establishments unique to Geauga County will be chosen biweekly by Executive Director John Oros and Marketing Coordinator Sandy Ward. Through our website and social media, we will highlight your menu along with a local park of your choosing.

Please send your name, phone number, email address and seasonal food and beverage – ideally including items for spring, summer and fall that travel easily for outdoor dining –

to sward@geaugaparkdistrict.org, noting that alcoholic beverages are permitted when consumed in a park lodge or shelter.

What could be better than to highlight food and beverage that is locally sourced and crafted, then enjoyed by our local families in their Geauga parks?

“The goal for this collaboration is to highlight local Geauga restaurants, chefs, and some of the best providers of food and drink in our county,” Executive Director John Oros said. “2020 was a trying year for many in this business, but it was great to see the resiliency and creativity in crafting quality menu options for takeout. Our hope is to build on this momentum by giving local businesses the opportunity to highlight their menus as part of a fun outdoor dining experience. Similarly, we hope to give our residents the unique experience of a picnic with Nature in one of Geauga Park District’s 27 locations.”
