Nicholas J. Fischbach returns to early park district roots
Geauga Park District is pleased to announce the appointment of Nicholas J. Fischbach as Park Board Commissioner. Mr. Fischbach, sworn in the morning of Friday, December 28, 2012 in the offices of Probate/Juvenile Court Judge Tim Grendell, will commence his term of service beginning January 1, 2013 and ending on December 31, 2015.
Nick Fischbach currently serves in the elected position as Mayor of Burton Village and has over 34 years of experience in Parks and Recreation and Law Enforcement. He was employed as Chief Ranger for Geauga Park District from 1979 until 1989. Mr. Fischbach served Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Parks for nearly 25 years, employed at Punderson State Park in various capacities including Chief Ranger, Assistant Park Manager, and Park Manager from 1974 until 1975 and again from 1989 until his recent retirement from the position as Regional District Manager. Other experiences in law enforcement include service to ODNR, Geauga County Sheriff’s Department, and Thompson Township Police Department.
“Nick will bring a wealth of experience to our park board,” says Geauga Park District Executive Director Tom Curtin. “It will be a pleasure to work for him and with him.”
Judge Grendell states, “It appears that no one has been appointed to the Park Board with as much overall public park experience as Nick Fischbach. The residents of Geauga County are fortunate to have someone with Mr. Fischbach’s public park management and service experience on the Geauga Park District Board. I am confident he will be of great assistance to Director Curtin and the other Board Members.” Mr. Fischbach fills a seat on the board vacated by Mr. John D. Leech who served from January 2007 through December 2012. “The other Park Board members and I wish to extend our sincere gratitude to John for his years of service,” says Tom Curtin. “He has brought a great deal of wisdom and experience to the Park District. His service and contributions have gone above and beyond.”
Mr. Fischbach attended his first Park Board Meeting on Thursday, January 3, 2013.
