Ladies Morning

Rise ‘n shine in the park to recharge your spirit!

Need a break from the weekly grind, ladies? Schedule some time for yourself to relax in the park with kayaking, yoga and other Nature-related activities at our annual summer Nature Break: Women’s Retreat.

What: Nature Break: Women’s Retreat

When: Saturday, August 13 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Headwaters Park, 13365 Old State Road (Rt. 608), Huntsburg Twp.

Your morning at this beautiful park will begin with coffee and morning snacks. Retreat time includes kayaking (instruction and equipment provided) and yoga with certified instructor Cassandra Shofar of Luna Sidera Yoga & Wellness (please bring a mat or beach towel). And our Nature-related activity this year will involve Monarchs – because as Naturalist Karie Wheaton says, “everyone loves Monarchs!” – and a fun way to plant flowers that we call seed bombs!

Seed bombs are balls of native flower seeds (in this case, for milkweed and flowers that Monarchs can nectar on), clay and soil that can be thrown wherever and will germinate as long as they land in an unmowed, sunny area. As a recruiter, you will make your own seed bombs, then search the small sections of meadow around the Headwaters Boathouse in search of Monarch eggs and caterpillars, which we can raise in captivity and release once they are adults. If we get lucky, we may even find a few adult butterflies in the field!

Of course you may also choose to spend some of your time simply sitting near the lake and enjoying the view (binoculars provided). Your delicious lunch will then come from Zeppe’s of Chardon.

Please dress in layers with comfortable clothes for being outside and for yoga, as well as a change of clothes in case yours gets wet while kayaking.

Registration and a fee of $6, which includes lunch, are required at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516. Only females school age and up, please. Some activities may be off trail and not fully accessible to those with wheelchairs. Please call with any other questions.

Geauga Park District is online at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
