Learn How to Identify Winter “Wildflowers” During a Workshop at the The West Woods

Although their colorful petals are now gone, many summer wildflowers are still identifiable by their unusual seed pods. Learn how to tell many of these plants using the Winter Weed Finder booklet during a workshop to be held at The West Woods on Saturday, November 18th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Registration is required at Geauga Park District or 440-286-9516 for this Winter Wildflower Workshop.

Burrs, barbs, capsules, hitchhikers and parachutes all describe some of the artistically beautiful wildflower silhouettes that grace the fields and roadsides, providing seed for hungry wildlife over the coming months.

An indoor session will be followed by an outdoor walk in search of plants to identify. The Winter Weed Finder booklet that will be featured this afternoon can be purchased for $6 in the gift shop before the program.

Thanks to the Native Plant Society of Northeastern Ohio for partnering on this workshop. Indoor activity will be wheelchair accessible; outdoor exploration will veer off trail. The West Woods is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. Please call 440-286-9516 with questions.
