For anyone ages 10-17 looking to learn rock climbing from a pro, there’s still room available in four Bouldering for Beginners sessions this summer at Geauga Park District’s Claridon Woodlands.
All will be led by Ian Young, the head routesetter at Shaker Rock Gym, who has been setting rock climbing routes since 2014. Ian loves to climb outside in new areas and explore new movement, and he regularly attends clinics, events and competitions in an effort to improve his craft and create the best routes possible for the community. We are excited to have him come share his skill with our Geauga County youth!
This intro class will cover why bouldering is great training for other climbing disciplines. You’ll learn the name of different rock holds, which type of grips you’ll need to maneuver them, and body positioning that will get you to the top again and again.
Sessions with Ian at Claridon Woodlands’ freeform boulder wall will be Sunday, September 11, 1 to 2:30 and 3 to 4:30 p.m. No special gear is required to participate – just a good pair of tennis shoes, as well as a completed and signed waiver. Additionally, an adult must remain onsite with each climber. To register, visit www.geaugaparkdistrict.org and select Programs & Events, or call 440-286-9516.
