Mini Golf at Geauga West Library Transforms Stacks to Greens

Fore! Join fellow library patrons and staff members for a round of golf at the Geauga West Library Links, where the entire building is converted into an 18-hole golf course for one special day of fun for the whole family. This annual event is the principle fundraiser for the Geauga County Library Foundation.

Proceeds from the Mini Golf event support Every Child Ready to Read, a program sponsored by the Geauga County Library Foundation. Kindergarteners throughout the county receive an age-appropriate book along with a teddy bear and a library card.

This event coincides with the Chesterland Kiwanis’ pancake breakfast held at the West Geauga Middle School. Feel free to enjoy a delicious breakfast at the school then walk across the parking lot to burn off a few calories to play golf. Or just come to the library ready to sink your shots.

Along with golfing, additional attractions include photo opportunities with Indians mascot Slider, a Chinese auction, a visit from the Geauga County K-9 unit, balloon creations from Banjo the Clown, face painting, and a special toddler hole for preschoolers.

“Promoting early literacy is a top priority for us,” says Director Deborah F. O’Connor, who is also a trustee on the Geauga County Library Foundation. “We are grateful that the foundation is a key supporter of this initiative. This fun event is great for all ages. The entire Chesterland library building is literally transformed into a mini golf course that was constructed by an Eagle Scout last year. We hope to see several hundred people there this year.”

*editor’s note: If you are like me, not a golfer, the term ‘fore’ is a short form of the word ‘before,’ which is a synonym to ‘ahead.’ Thus, fore literally means, ‘look out ahead!’
