Dr. Seuss Celebration at Geauga Theater

All fans of the delightful Dr. Seuss, beloved author and illustrator of such favorites as Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and The Grinch, are invited to a celebration on March 1 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm at the Geauga Theater on Chardon Square.

Presented by the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, this family oriented event will feature a special Seuss Reader’s Theater and singing performance by the GLTG show choir, The Geauga Gems directed by Karen Porter. There will also be Dr. Seuss related crafts, games, and refreshments.

“This event has been planned with the help of a special theater arts class, focusing on developing oral dramatic reading skills,” stated instructor Julie Douglass. “The students, ages 7-10, will combine with a group of senior citizens led by Madeline Horvath to salute Dr. Seuss and the annual Read Across America program. We researched many of Seuss’s best sellers and found some really interesting back stories. For example, one school art teacher told Seuss to give up drawing as he had no talent or chance of being an artist!” Dr. Seuss published over 40 children’s books, winning many awards and the hearts of millions of people throughout the world for his clever rhymes and whimsical illustrations before his death in 1987.

This community event is free, however, donations are gratefully accepted at the door. For additional details contact the GLTG business office at 440-285-7701 or visit the theater website. The Geauga Theater is located at 101 Water Street, Chardon, OH.
