NDES Students Learn to Handle Bullying in School and in Life
Notre Dame Elementary School students in kindergarten through 8th grade began their first session of “Bullies to Buddies” last week. This program taught children specific techniques that can be used to respond to bullying. Through role playing, students were taught various strategies on how to react to name-calling, rumor spreading, and minor physical altercations calmly and effectively instead of with anger and fear. These are important lessons that they can carry with them throughout life.

A Cultural Experience through Literature
Fifth graders at Notre Dame Elementary School are learning about world cultures and appreciating diversity through their class novel, Day of the Pelican. The book’s themes of identifying and overcoming prejudice helps the children understand cultural conflicts in Albania and Serbia as they research the history and geography of Kosovo using their iPads and laptops. As they read the book, students will also learn how one gains strength from the foundation of their family.
