New Chardon Softball League Is a Hit!

A new community softball league created by Chardon area parents is receiving strong support from sponsors, families, and players. More than 155 girls have registered, and 30 coaches and 18 sponsors have committed to be part of our inaugural 2014 summer season.

The Chardon Softball League started in the fall of 2013 with the aim of bringing the best positive softball experience, both in terms of skill development and team atmosphere, for girls aged 5-14 in the Chardon School District community.

“We are thrilled with how many parents, coaches, and players are joining the Chardon Softball League as it shows how many people believe in what we are doing,” said Chardon Softball League President Greg Jahnke, who is also a coach and has two daughters playing in the league. “We are looking forward to an amazing season, and we are excited to be part of Chardon’s strong softball community.”

What makes the Chardon Softball League special?

Our Board of Directors is composed of parents whose children participate in the league. With the Board directly involved, this helps ensure that decisions are made with the best interests of the players and the league. For example, the league will limit each team’s roster to have a maximum of 12 players.

The league, which is independent of other Chardon softball leagues, has developed a partnership with the successful Chardon High School softball program. There will be hitting, pitching, and fielding clinics, along with coaching support, linking our programs. Former Chardon High and John Carroll star pitcher Kristin (Platz) Soltis is providing instruction and already conducts weekly off-season clinics.

The Chardon Softball League has an indoor facility in town, allowing our players to further develop their skills during the off-season. The league is also utilizing technology through its new website and online registration system.
