CHS Key Club Salutes Veterans with Breakfast and Recognition

The CHS Key Club Veterans Day Salute was a big success on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. We are thrilled that so many veterans and their families joined us for breakfast and a special recognition assembly. During the assembly, students led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Cardinaires sang the Star Spangled Banner, students spoke about the meaning behind Veterans Day and read essays they wrote, HS Tech teacher Mr. Fenner and John Sudyk – WWII Veteran & Omaha Beach survivor, spoke about their respective military experiences, the CHS band played each military branch’s songs while those while ties to that branch stood and were recognized, a slide show showing photos of Veterans of students and employees in our district was shared, the Middlefield VFW Post 9678 did a flag demonstration, and taps was played. At the end of the assembly students and staff shook the hands of Veterans in attendance and thanked them for their service. We are grateful to all who have served – thank you for your service!

Third Graders Vote for a Cause 3rd graders cast very important votes in Mrs. Tropf’s social studies classes on Tuesday, November 8th! Dr. Seuss, who ran for President as the kids’ candidate, asked students across the country to help choose what charity his administration should support with a $10,000 donation when he gets into office. Prior to the vote, students reread old Dr. Seuss Favorites: The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax and Horton Hears a Who. Each book was paired with a charity and students wrote persuasive pieces to explain to their peers why they were going to vote the way they were. The charities are First Book, Oceana, Conservation International, Feed the Children, and PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center (NBPC). On Election Day, students cast their ballots at the start of class. Poll workers checked everyone in and then directed them to the electronic voting booths to cast their votes. Everyone received an “I Voted” sticker after casting their ballot.
