CMS Counselors Awarded Kinetico Grant

Chardon Middle School Counselors have been awarded a Kinetico Teen Education Grant to help support efforts to provide a proactive school counseling program that reaches all students. Kinetico is a Geauga county company that makes residential and commercial water treatment systems. “Teens are constantly facing challenges, whether it is bullying, drugs and alcohol use or self-esteem issues,” said Toby Thomas, Kinetico’s president and CEO. “Kinetico is proud to lend support to area schools as they strive to make a difference in the lives of Geauga County youth.” Teen Education Grant funds can be used directly for expenses associated with educational assemblies, speakers or other teen-related programming selected by the school. The money provided from this grant will be used to create a transition program for students new to Chardon Middle School.

Chardon Middle School sixth graders recently competed as individuals and in teams in a Moby Math Fact Challenge to improve their Math fact fluency. At the end of the six-day close contest, Team 6B prevailed over Team 6A, keeping the ‘Moby Trophy’. The great news is that the two teams combined to correctly answer over 30,000 math facts! Congratulations to the top five individuals from each team who won some fun prizes as well as bragging rights. First: Ethan Faber, Dylan Fletcher; Second: Brandon Fatur, Zachary Heintz; Third: Jimmy Fletcher, Carmen, Tizzano; Fourth: Jordan Cvelbar, Michael Benjamin; and Fifth: Alex Baggott, Alexis Fink. The Moby Math Fact Challenge is from the website, MobyMax, which teachers can use to help find and fix student learning gaps. MobyMax’s adaptive curriculum creates an individualized education plan for each student, allowing gifted students to progress as quickly as they like while simultaneously ensuring that remedial students get the extra instruction they need.
