At the age of 34, Laura Simpson, of Chardon and Broadview Heights, received life changing news when she was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer that had metastasized to her liver. Given the prognosis of two-years to live, Simpson, a single mother of two young children, became a professional patient, navigating the world of oncologists and surgeons, undergoing a colon resection as well as a liver resection, chemotherapy, ablations, and radiation over the course of her treatment. She lost her battle with cancer at the age of 40 and departed from this world on September 4, 2013.
