Have you been thinking about ‘beaching it’ lately? It’s definitely that time of year when people start switching over to their summer attire, including getting out that old swim suit! How ‘old’ is that suit, anyway? Is it time to upgrade to something a little more stylish perhaps?

If you’re like many women, shopping for swimwear gets a one on a scale of ten. Yet, you really want to enjoy the summer beach life and feel good about yourself while doing so. Marcia Winfield of California Imports and Spa House in Painesville has a great word of encouragement for you!

“Most women come through the door and emphatically state, ‘I HATE SHOPPING FOR SWIMWEAR!’ Our job is to show them how much fun swimwear shopping can be and to help them see how beautiful they can be in swimwear. They usually leave laughing and exclaiming that they have never had so much fun shopping for swimwear!”

How’s that for starting off your summer right!

“What a great find!” ~E.M.

At California Imports, you aren’t left to fend for yourself. They are a ‘fit specialist’ store and know exactly what styles look the best on each body type. “We work one on one with our customers to find the suit that fits them perfectly. Typically, in a department store, the shopper is alone trying to make sense out of an array of swimwear,” says Marcia. “Our staff knows how every suit fits every body, and that makes a huge difference in the shopping experience for the customer. Every customer takes advantage of our knowledgeable staff because our job is to provide them outstanding service and make swimwear shopping fun.”

One California beach life, please…

As a former owner of a marina in Grand River, Ohio, Marcia has been a part of the water-lovers’ lifestyle for decades. It was that lifestyle that sparked the idea of beginning a swimwear and tanning business inside the marina. So, starting from scratch, she and her husband Tom took the idea, built it into a reality, and named it California Imports and Spa House. “When we started out, most of the swimwear manufacturers were located in California, and we wanted to bring the California beach life to the midwest. We thought the name reflected that,” shares Marcia.

After leaving the marina, they opened the business in a new location, 1697 Mentor Ave., where they served customers from 1989 until 2012. Then in January of 2013, they moved to their current location at1935 Mentor Ave.

“We began as a swimwear store with tanning, but over the years our customers showed us the need for mix and match swimwear with emphasis on hard to fit women and women with larger cup sizes. So we followed our clients’ lead, and now we are known for high quality, excellent fitting swim wear for all body shapes and sizes.”

Talk about choices!!

What will you find at California Imports? In addition to swimwear, you’ll also find shoes, bags, hats, sun dresses, and much more. Here’s a little sampling:

“We have carried Sunsets Swimwear since we began in the business. They were pretty much the first to go to separates and to cater to the larger cup sizes. We go to the swimwear shows every year to find new lines that cater to our niche,” says Marcia.

Now you’ll find Aquavita, T.H.E., Quintsoul, Christina, Miraclesuit…and many other brands. “We have swimwear for everyone…children to grandma, and men, too! But, generally, our swimwear customers are from their late teens to late 50s. We can fit women from extra small to plus size 32. We carry one pieces, two piece suits, and tankini’s for gals.”

Just take a look at their website! There are dozens and dozens to peruse!

And what about that tan?

If you’d like to get a jump start on your tan, California Imports and Spa House can help there as well. “We started with both swimwear and tanning,” Marcia says, “and have added body wraps and AirBrush spray tanning as the customers requested it. The spray tanning was the next evolution from Vitamin D tanning as people worry about sun exposure but still want to look tan. Vitamin D tanning is still very popular, and actually seems to be growing, as people realize the need for ample amounts of vitamin D to stay healthy. Sun exposure is the natural way for our bodies to produce vitamin D.” You’ll find plenty of additional information about their tanning on their website.

From one to ten…and off to the beach!

Marcia works hard to keep prices in line and is always looking for the right styles for her customers. She finds great reward in “…helping women to feel good about their bodies and finding swimwear and clothing that brings out their best.”

If you’re one of those women who rates swimwear shopping at a one, then it’s time to visit Marcia and her staff of specialists at California Imports. Who knows….that ‘one’ rating could be upgraded to a ‘ten’ and swimwear shopping just may become an annual event you and your friends can’t wait to dive into every year! And now…it’s off to the beach!
