Out On The Water

Public canoeing & kayaking on the parks’ summer schedule!

 

Whether it’s before dawn, during the day or beneath a full moon, your time on the water will be the best part of your day. Register by phone at 440-286-9516 for any of these opportunities to join a Geauga Park District naturalist for a float.

 

Polliwog Paddle Family Canoe (register starting July 16 by phone)

Sunday, July 17, 1-3 PM, Eldon Russell Park

An easy-paced, short-distance float on the Upper Cuyahoga River for families. Ages 5+ with adult.

 

Sunset-Moonrise Paddle (register starting July 16 by phone)

Sunday, July 17, 8-9:30 PM, Bass Lake Preserve

Experience sunset and moonrise on tranquil Bass Lake. Canoeing experience needed for adults. Ages 12+ with adult.

 

Bass Lake Kayak (register starting July 16 by phone)

Saturday, July 23, 9-11 AM, Bass Lake Preserve

Spend a morning on these tranquil waters enjoying the wildlife and beautiful surroundings. Basic kayaking skills required. Ages 12+ with adult.

 

Kelso Kayak (register starting July 24 by phone)

Sunday, July 31, 1-3 PM & 4-6 PM, Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve

Search for signs of wildlife afloat on beautiful Lake Kelso. Basic kayaking skills required. Ages 12+ with adult.

 

Cuyahoga Lunch Kayak (register starting July 31 by phone)

Saturday, August 6, 11 AM-3 PM, Eldon Russell Park

Pack a lunch and water and enjoy the beautiful Upper Cuyahoga River. We’ll stop along the way to eat. Basic kayaking skills required. Must be able to kayak at least 5 miles. Ages 12+ with adult.

 

Nature Break: Women’s Retreat (register required)

Saturday, August 13, 9 AM-1 PM, Headwaters Park, Boathouse

Take a break to relax with kayaking, yoga and other nature-related activities. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Fee: $6 includes lunch.

 

Kelso Afternoon Canoe (register starting August 6 by phone)

Saturday, August 13, 1:30-3 PM, Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve

Float on the cool waters of glacial Lake Kelso and see rare plant and animal life. Basic canoeing skills required. Ages 10+ with adult.

An easy-paced, short-distance float on the Upper Cuyahoga River for families. Ages 5+ with adult.

 

Kingfisher Kayak (register starting August 20 by phone)

Saturday, August 27, 10 AM-Noon, LaDue Reservoir, Rt. 44 Parking Lot

See sandpipers, plovers, herons, kingfishers, Caspian terns, osprey and other birds. Bring your own boat and binoculars or reserve one of ours. Kayaking skills required. Parking lot is south of U.S. 422. Ages 12+ with adult. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.

 

Kelso Sunset Canoe (Ages 10+ w/adult) (register starting September 2 by phone)

Sunday, September 11, 7:30-9 PM, Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve

Experience the sunset as Nature comes alive around the beautiful waters of Lake Kelso. Basic canoeing skills required. Ages 10+ with adult.

 

Headwaters Kayak (register starting September 10 by phone)

Saturday, September 17, 2-3:30 PM, Headwaters Park, Boathouse

Paddle along the East Branch Reservoir and search for the plants and wildlife that make their on and near water. Basic canoeing skills and life vests required. Kayaks available or bring your own. Ages 10+ with adult.

 

Unless otherwise specified, programs are designed for those already comfortable with being out on the water; no lessons will be given. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.
