
We realize that there’s an endless list of things for kids to do and explore in the Geauga Parks. To make your job easier, we’re putting on lots of programming to show them just how incredible (and fun) Nature can be, including the return of Toddler Time for ages 1 and 2 accompanied by an adult!
Junior Girl Scout: Legacy Flowers Badge on Saturday, May 14, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at The West Woods, Nature Center the Junior Girl Scouts work on requirements for their naturalist Legacy Flowers Badge. Indoors and outdoors. Registration required.
Homeschool Days: Pond Primer (Ages 5-7 & 8-12) on Friday, May 27, 2-3:30 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation, grab a net and join a naturalist to learn about the animals that make ponds their homes. Registration required.
Timbertots: Cicada Spectacular! (Ages 3-5 w/adult) on Sunday, May 29, 1-2 p.m. at Big Creek Park, Deep Woods Shelter and Tuesday, May 31 from 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. at Orchard Hills Park, Lodge, experience the sights and sounds of the 17-year cicada. Registration required.
Polliwog Paddle Family Canoe will take place on Sunday, June 5, from 1-3 p.m. at Eldon Russell Park, Horwath’s Shelter. An easy-paced, short-distance float for families with kids ages 5+. Phone registration required May 29-June 4.
Caveman Crawl 5K Trail Run on Sunday, June 12, 7-11 a.m. at The West Woods Experience this one-of-a-kind 5K trail run through the wooded hills of The West Woods, including a new, family-friendly one mile fun walk! Fee: $20. Proceeds benefit the Chip Henry Institute for Outdoor Adventure. for details and registration.
Junior Naturalist Day Camp (Youth entering grades 5-7) on Monday, June 13 – Friday, June 17, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at The West Woods, Nature Center. Join Geauga Park District’s Junior Naturalist Day Camp for an exciting week of exploring streams, lakes and forests for exciting wildlife such as macroinvertebrates, birds, amphibians, insects and more! Fee: $150. Registration required.
Adventure Day Camp (Teens entering grades 8-10) on Monday, June 20 – Friday, June 24, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center. Join Geauga Park District’s Adventure Day Camp for an exciting week of exploring, archery, biking, kayaking, fishing, sending kites high into the sky and more! Fee: $150. Registration required.
Grandparents Summer Picnic on Monday, June 20, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Bass Lake Preserve, Lodge. Grandparents and grandchildren enjoy a day in the park with a picnic and Nature activities in collaboration with Chardon Senior Center, which provides hot dogs. Please bring a dessert or side dish to share. Registration required.
Solar Day & Solstice Sunset on Monday, June 20 from 6-9:30 p.m. at Observatory Park. Cook s’mores in a solar oven, participate in solar-powered toy car races, test light sensitive beads, view the sun through a special telescope, and (if you stick around) witness the full moon rising at sunset on the longest day of the year!
Toddler Time (Ages 1-2 w/adult) on Tuesday, June 21 from 10-11 a.m. at Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve. Enjoy a stroll around the lake looking for signs of summer like goslings, songbirds and blooming flowers. Strollers or backpacks recommended. Registration required.
Timbertots: Peeking in a Pond (Ages 3-5 w/adult) on Saturday, June 25, from 10-11 a.m. at The West Woods, Nature Center and Tuesday, June 28, from 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation, Lodge. Grab a net to discover all kinds of critters that live in a pond! Registration required.
Nights Out in the Park: Movie Night on Saturday, June 25, from 8:30-11:30 p.m. at Observatory Park. View the classic movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial at this International Dark Sky Park and enjoy opportunities to take in a planetarium show and spy deep into the sky using park telescopes! Pre-show astronomy activities at 8:30 p.m.; movie at dark. Free popcorn and lemonade. Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs.
