Mrs. Erin Bryan’s class of gifted 4th and 5th graders recently hosted an Invention Convention at Park Elementary. Ohio’s non-profit Invention Convention Program envisions a day when every child has the chance to follow their natural curiosity, invent creative solutions to problems and be inspired to achieve their highest level of personal accomplishment.
Participants of the program identified an every-day problem and created their own invention to solve it. They were required to present their problem solving process, data collection and results on a tri-fold board. They also had to make a prototype of their invention to share during their presentations. The students worked on this project for eight weeks, with some of that time being in class, and the rest at home.
Students were graded by their teacher, Mrs. Bryan, and judged by one of the three judges. The judges were April Siegel-Green from Chardon Schools, Deborah Morgan from the Geauga County Educational Service Center and Michael Gisondo from Lake Erie College.
An evening open house was also held for families to view all of the students’ work. Three students will be selected to move onto the regional competition in the spring, which will be held in Cleveland. Best of luck to all of our Park School inventors, including Lauren Alexander, Madilyn Atchley, Carter Bannister, Charlotte Bennett, Caleb Brickner, Jacob Brown, Matthew Brown, Evan Germ, Jacob Hlifka, Zane Kuhnle, Brent Miller, Kristina Pason, Paige Patrick, Caden Price, Ian Quinn, Leia Solich, Brady Williams and Sierra Zarcone.
