Strike one, strike two, strike three….you’re not out?
Not when you’re playing Tee ball that is!
Pack up a cooler, bring along your favorite lawn chair, or blanket, and then head out to any youth baseball game that might be playing in your area. That’s what I did.
The Middlefield Rec. team and Claridon Cougars team recently enjoyed a friendly Saturday morning game of Tee ball. If you have never been to a Tee ball game before, then you would have been just as confused as I was on the rules of the game. Which are; each player has the opportunity to swing at three pitches, pitched to them by their coach. If the player does not get a hit off those three pitches, a tall tee type stand is brought in and the ball is placed on the top of the stand. Now, the batter has the opportunity to hit the ball off the stand, and run – not just to first, but all the way around the bases to home, bringing in all players standing on bases, and themselves.
There is a lot of encouragement from both the team’s coaches and the spectators, no matter what side you’re cheering for. Tee ball builds up a player’s confidence to play ball when they might miss one of the three pitches and have fun while doing so, without feeling the anguish of striking out. I have to admit, the pizza party afterwards was definitely an added bonus. Everyone had a great morning at the Tee ball game, and I learned about the game of Tee ball.
