Those with horses are invited to register for two unique horseback activities designed to unify and educate trail users. Please just remember to register in advance at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516.
On Saturday, August 24th, Geauga Park District’s annual Trail Horse Nature Challenge returns from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The West Woods, featuring a 1- to 2-hour challenge course with natural trail obstacles and Nature trivia, plus awards and certificates in youth and adult divisions.
Participants will be assigned departure times upon arrival in order of registration, and will ride out individually or in pairs at a leisurely pace, as time is not a factor in this event. Riders may also choose to continue park exploration independently once they have completed the course.
Then on Saturday, September 14th, meet and experience a stationary and moving Amish horse and buggy in a non-threatening way during Horseback Riders: Amish Buggy Training & Trail Ride. From 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Swine Creek Reservation, with the help of Linda Byler, you and your horse will learn to safely share the trail with buggies. Then join a naturalist on a trail ride along the Wagon, Meadowlark and Gray Fox trails, expecting hills, gravel, mud, streams and Amish buggies. Finally, at 12:30 p.m., bring your lunch to share time with other riders at Woods Edge Shelter.
Helmets are recommended for all rides, and please bring a shovel to clean up after your horse in the parking lot. With questions, feel free to call in advance.
