The Berkshire Badgers made another trip down to the Ohio High School State Cross Country Championship at the National Trail Raceway in Hebron the first weekend in November. The girls’ team, composed of seniors Alison Moss and Danielle Young, juniors Christin Dornback, Suzanne Koziol, Melissa Koziol, Gwen Losasso, and Katelyn Luther, and the lone freshman, Kylie Scott, loaded up the bus on Friday morning along with junior David Pelletier, the only boy to qualify to state individually after a heartbreaking team finish of fifth place at an extremely competitive regional meet the week previous.
On Saturday morning, the Badgers woke and headed to the meet, both excited and nervous for the final race of the season. The Division 3 girls’ race began at 11:00, and after a season generally filled with obstacles, difficulties, and disappointments, the Berkshire ladies finished with a team place of 12th.
Although the lady runners seemed to be subdued and disappointed post-race, they are viewing this season as a lesson learned and plan to use it as motivation for spring track and the cross seasons to come. They are thankful for the support from their families and the coaches and are glad to have had such a memorable and fun season.
David Pelletier rounded out his season with a 28th place finish in the Division 3 boys’ race, with a time of 16:52. He got buried early on in the race but moved up 31 places after the first mile. Pelletier says that he was disappointed in his time because he knows he could have gone faster and has plans to make it down again next year with bigger goals and a smarter race plan.
