On October 9, from 10 a.m. until noon, Barry Henkin, author of Why Am I So Special? will be at Special Hands Shoppe in Middlefield, Ohio to autograph his book, which was published earlier this year.
Barry Henkin has been faced with developmental challenges since birth and wrote his autobiography in the hope of motivating others to live their lives to their fullest potential. He has worked for Menorah Park in Beachwood, Ohio for over three decades, and has been a popular guest speaker since 2011. In his speeches, he offers advice and encouragement on how to achieve personal fulfillment despite life’s physical, mental, emotional, and societal obstacles. Henkin was inducted into the Cleveland Heights High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 2013, and has received numerous community and workplace awards for his achievements.
The Special Hands Shoppe, located at 15910 West High Street in Middlefield, Ohio, opened in July of this year. It is a collaborative effort of the Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Middlefield city officials, and the board of Metzenbaum Sheltered Industries, Inc. (MSI).
The retail store sells a wide range of tasteful second-hand furnishings and nostalgic treasures along with locally crafted items. According to MSI director Jim Groner, “The Special Hands Shoppe provides our MSI employees with an opportunity to interact with the wider community by working in a public, rather than sheltered, work environment. Bringing Barry in for a book signing is another way for us to help raise community awareness about how much individuals with disabilities have to offer.”
The book signing event is free and open to the general public. Special Hands will retain 25 percent of any book purchases made. No reservations are required. Ample free parking is available. For questions or more information, please call Debra Fabrizio-Griggs, MSI Manager, 440-632-0659.
