St. Helen World Famous UnicycleTeam Resurrected

Former members gather to relive their glory days!

On Saturday, April 27 AND Sunday, April 28, 2013, former team members of St. Helen’s World Famous Unicycle Team will ride in the Maple Festival parades.

Any former team member is invited to line up at 1:45 p.m. across from the old Chardon Rubber plant on 5th Avenue. We are expecting over 2 dozen riders ranging in age from 7 to 57 to be in the parade. Either day would be a good opportunity for members of the media to take pictures or interview this unique group of unicyclists.

In their 28 year history, St. Helen’s Unicyclists performed around the country in parades, sports halftime shows, and on television. Included are such events as The World’s Fair, The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Inaugural parades for Presidents Nixon and Carter, The Cotton Bowl, Tangerine Bowl, and Orange Bowl and on To Tell The Truth, Real People.

Many have continued the unicycling tradition through teaching their children to ride, participating in parades or charity events (One Heartbeat Ride), or competing in NAUCC, the North American Unicycling Competition and Convention.

Fifty-seven year old Dave White, from the class of 1970, is riding his unicycle across the country to raise awareness and research funding for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) through ALS TDI. He is doing it in honor of his father, Robert White, who succumbed to ALS in 1991. Dave began his adventure Mar 1, 2013 at Ocean Beach Dog Park in San Diego, CA and will ride approximately 3000 miles to St. Augustine, FL. His sister, Suzi Ramos, will be at the parades with pictures and information about his cause as well.

There will also be a reunion and golf outing on Saturday May 18, 2013, at Berkshire Hills Country Club. For further information or to make a reservation, e-mail Steve Kekedy at sdkekedy@windstream.net, call (440) 708-6324, St Helen Church (440) 564-5805 or through Facebook or online.
