Photographers Penny Orr and Gus Zimmerman will be the featured artists at the April 19 Geauga Arts Network Group (GANG) program, held from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. at Heinen’s Cafe, 402 Center Street in Chardon, Ohio. The program is free and open to the general public. No reservations are necessary.

This husband and wife team combine Orr’s love of gardening with Zimmerman’s life-long dedication to commercial photography to create dramatic close-up photos that capture the natural wonder we all feel when confronted with the exquisite complexity of flowers. Zimmerman explains, “To capture the beauty of flowers is a challenge, because it lasts such a short time. Our goal is to share that beauty with others.”

Orr brings to her work a depth of knowledge and experience in horticulture, as well as practical experience with electron microscopy. She majored in biology and mastered in ecology, and is currently managing Perennials Preferred, a plant and garden center in Chesterland, Ohio. Zimmerman is one of less than 20 photographers worldwide mentored and recognized by master photographer Peter Hurley as a recommended “top-notch” portrait photographer.

Their floral photography integrates Zimmerman’s disciplined approach to composition with Orr’s artistic sensibility and her fascination with the complex structure of flowers. Their program will include a slide show of some of their images, as well as a sample “set-up” demonstrating some of the processes they use to control the photographic environment.
