The In-Season Produce You Must Get In June

There is a period where you can buy fresh produce, and all produce comes in at different times. But unless you’re a gardener, you might have a hard time telling when these peak seasons for fresh produce are. To make it a little bit easier, we’ve gathered a few of our favorites based on the wonderful guide at GettingBalance.com.

Lettuce is one of those things that are in season all year round, but you can expect it to be the freshest around June. And the types of lettuce available go above and beyond just kale and iceberg lettuces. If you take a peek and ask around your local farmer’s market, you’re bound to find something interesting. Don’t be afraid to try something new, either. You never know what kind of ingredients will perfect your favorite summer salads.

The other vegetable that is in-season in June is corn, which is always a must have for any summer cookout or get together. Seriously, try to think of a summer get together where you haven’t had corn on the cob in some form. In fact, after the summer, you’re probably sick of it. But there are plenty of recipes online to keep you from getting bored of this summer favorite vegetable. Other vegetables that are in season that you might be missing out on are yellow squash and green beans.

To no one at all’s surprise, June is also when watermelon comes into season. Even though there’s not a lot that you can do with watermelon, it is an absolute must have for any outdoor event that you’re planning. It’s nice, cool, cold, and refreshing, which makes it perfect for those hot summer days. As well as being a good way to stay hydrated, watermelon is also packed with antioxidants. Another melon fruit that’s available in June? Cantaloupe, which is only ripe when it smells like flowers.

Strawberries, peaches, and cherries are all awesome in salads, full of the essential vitamins that we all need, and taste amazing. But they’re only in-season for a short amount of time so you should get them while you can.

No matter what kind of produce you pick up this summer, fruits and vegetables are one of the easiest ways to get the energy and nutrients that you need. And with the whole summer ahead of you, you want to be at your healthiest and most energetic.
