The return of Geauga Park District’s discARTed Recycled Art Exhibition should see more than 200 pieces of artwork on display at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township, and we hope you will join us in celebrating these artists and opening this uniquely awesome show!

Meet the Artists, an opening event featuring refreshments and live music performed on instruments made of recycled materials, will take place on Sunday, February 17th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

While discARTed will remain on display daily February 19th through April 15th, Meet the Artists will let you and your family be among the first to view the show – all functional, decorative and youth art made of discarded/found materials.

DiscARTed is a challenge to the community to ‘think outside the trash can,’” said Teresa Runion, special events coordinator, “utilizing cast-off materials in the creation of decorative and functional artwork. Works created from recycled materials are carriers of memory and history, containing vestiges of their former function into new art. The possibilities for raw materials are endless!”

For a free, all-ages discARTed experience for families, discARTed Family Art Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Drop in between these hours to create several make-n-take projects from recycled materials, then enjoy refreshments as you view the exhibition. Projects include self-watering planters, magazine flowers and jewelry, and more! No registration is required to create or participate.

Also, just down the street at Artisan Corner Gallery for the duration of the exhibition, view a companion collection of handmade artwork made from recycled medium by discARTed artisans, with a selection of unique artwork under $60. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Extended hours on March 1st and April 5th will keep doors open until 8:00 p.m.

The West Woods Nature Center is fully wheelchair/stroller accessible at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. Please call 440-286-9516 with questions about discARTed. Artisan Corner Gallery is located at 11110 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in the Zeppe’s plaza and can be reached with questions about its companion display at 440-739-4128.
