Girls Basketball
The Cardinal Girls Basketball season got off to a good start as the Huskies defeated Ashtabula Lakeside in their opening game on Saturday, November 23. Brooke Hauser scored 16 points and Jess Koches posted 11. Biz Timas added 8 points and 9 rebounds and Emily Kruse contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds.The Dragons made a second half push, but the Huskies were able to hold them off to earn the victory.
The Huskies had a tough time getting the ball in the hoop on the road at Newton Falls on Tuesday, November 26, shooting just 6 of 38 from the field. Jess Koches led the team with 6 points and Christine Morris had 6 rebounds in the 48-15 loss at the hands of the talented Tigers.
Cardinal stayed close until the 4th quarter on the road at Fairport on Friday, November 29, but lost 53-38. The Skippers shot the ball very well and the Huskies couldn’t keep pace, falling to 1-2 overall. Biz Timas had 7 points and 5 rebounds, and Christine Morris added 6 points and 5 rebounds.
Jess Koches led Cardinal with 14 points as the Huskies nearly mounted an improbable comeback on the road against a good Ledgemont team on Tuesday after being down by 18 at the half. Christine Morris and Kathryn Dhayer added 10 rebounds each for the Huskies as they played an outstanding second half that led to a nail-biter finish. The entire team contributed positively and should be proud of a great team effort despite losing by a final score of 59-55.
Boys Basketball
The Huskies are off to a 2-0 start after beating Ledgemont on Friday, November 29, and Garrettsville Garfield on Tuesday, Nevember 26. Jake DiBlasio had 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks to lead the Huskies to a 76-47 win over Ledgemont. Jake Bosak was second in scoring with 16 points, including three 3 pointers. Cody Hunt had 6 points and 16 rebounds off the bench.
The Huskies held off a tough Garfield team to win 57-47. Jake DiBlasio had 17 points in the 1st half and finished the game with 27 points, 20 rebounds and 6 blocks. Jake Bosak had 11 points, 17 Rebounds and 3 blocks. 3 of his 4 field goals were from behind the 3 point arc. Micah Breyley was the heart and soul of the team with his ball hawking defense and non-stop energy on both ends of the floor.
Wrestling
Cardinal will be hosting our annual wrestling tournament on Saturday, December 7. Aurora, Cleveland John F. Kennedy, Garfield, Ledgemont, Lutheran West, NDCL, and West Geauga will be bringing teams. We will have ONE admission charge ($6.00) that will be good for the entire day, including finals. Senior citizens and preschoolers are admitted free. No league passes will be accepted. Doors open at 9:00 a.m.
