Geauga Park District wants you to experience the Great Outdoors’ greatest, and has scheduled these three programs with these spring-specific experiences in mind.
A Trilling Experience with Treefrogs
Saturday, May 24 – 8:30 to 10 p.m.
The West Woods
9465 Kinsman Road (Rt. 87)
Bring a flashlight and witness the breeding phenomenon of Gray Treefrogs and encounter other amphibians in woodland pools, rain or shine.
Mayfly Evening Canoe Float (Ages 10+ w/experienced adult)
Friday, May 30 – 8 to 10 p.m.
Eldon Russell Park-Horwath’s Landing
16315 Rapids Road, Troy Township
Register beginning May 23 online or by calling 440-286-9516 for this float in the hopes of witnessing the annual mayfly hatch, which attracts a great variety of bats and birds to the Upper Cuyahoga River.
Saturday, May 31, to Sunday, June 1 – 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Big Creek Park – Maple Grove
9160 Robinson Road, Chardon Township
Calling all night owls and/or early birds – this unique event will allow you to experience northeastern Ohio moths to their fullest, and should be a night to remember! Join Tami Gingrich, Linda Gilbert, and other moth experts as they maintain black-light and mercury vapor lighting stations during the night hours throughout Big Creek Park, also using live giant silk moths will be used to attract wild specimens. Drop by any time throughout the night, or notify Naturalist Linda at 440-279-0886 that you plan to camp on site!
