Don’t miss seeing this total lunar eclipse…in a totally approachable time range! This viewing of the total lunar eclipse will take place Sunday, September 27, from 8 p.m. to midnight at Observatory Park, 10610 Clay Street, Montville Twp.
As Astronomy Naturalist (“Astro-Nat”) Chris Mentrek says, “This is the big one!” Why? The moon will be entirely blocked out by Earth’s shadow. (Ohio won’t get to see another lunar eclipse until 2017, and that one will only be a partial eclipse!)
The show should start around 8:40 p.m. when the edge of Earth’s shadow, or penumbra, begins to brush the moon. Park telescopes will be available for up-close viewing of the full moon and any other visible targets in the night sky – just don’t be surprised when the moon vanishes under shadow between 10 and 11:30 p.m., the most intense part of the show!
Visitors will also have the chance to participate in a citizen science project by recording the times when various lunar craters are enveloped in shadow.
All activities will all be open to all ages and be fully wheelchair/stroller accessible. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.
