60th Season Opens with The Fantasticks

The world’s longest running musical, performing off-Broadway for 42 years, is opening the Geauga Lyric Theater’s 60th season on September 12. Directed by J.E. Ballantyne, last here for GLTG’s Wizard of Oz, and with new to GLTG musical director John Krol, excitement is building among the cast and crew.

Producer Mark Miloro thinks there is something for everyone in this production. “Literary folks will love the twisted take on some classic stories, there is old fashioned silly slapstick, and you will be surprised to learn the origins of songs you’ve probably hummed that have now been around for over fifty years.”

The Fantasticks is kind of a 1960’s fairy tale. Star-crossed young lovers Luisa (Katie Malish) and Matt Hucklebee (Matt Gittens) struggle with parental interference, and a host of strange happenings. Katie, a junior at NDCL, agrees with the producer. “The show is really captivating-it has an interesting plot that has comedy, romance, action (there is even a sword fight!) and drama.” Her beautiful singing voice is matched by her counterpart, Matt, a senior at CHS. He loves the wonderful music they get to perform, and working with the talented cast.

Next week we will introduce you to the “senior” members of the cast; some old favorites and some new. It’s not too late to get a season pass for our 60th anniversary season. Through the opening of The Fantasticks, with every pass purchased, receive the gift of a free $10 concession card.

Tickets or season passes can be purchased through the website or by calling the box office at (440) 286-2255. The historic Geauga Theater is located on beautiful Chardon Square at 101 Water Street, Chardon, Ohio. CLICK HERE for more information about fall classes with GLTG.
