May’s GANG Program to Host Poet/Painter Joanne Speidel

On Tuesday, May 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the GANG (Geauga Arts Network Group) program will feature poet/painter Joanne Speidel of Newbury, OH.

This educational program, at Heinen’s Cafe, 402 Center Street in Chardon, Ohio, is free and open to the general public.

Poet and Geauga County resident Grace Butcher will host the evening. No reservations are necessary.

The topic of Speidel’s program will be the intriguing connections between her two art forms. Many of her paintings have been inspired by her poems.

Joanne Speidel taught English for 20 years at Cleveland Public School District middle and high schools. She began writing poetry in 1980 and has had work published in New Renaissance, Passages North, Riverwind, Karamu, Lakeland Forum and elsewhere. She has also published a collection of poetry, Crow Songs.

She began painting after retiring in 1990, focusing on oils, acrylics, and collage and studied under Bud Diehl at Valley Art Center. Some of her artwork can currently be seen at the Chardon Senior Center, where she is being honored as Artist of the Month.
