Summer workshops will yield art for peace of mind & spirit
In the park, there is something to be said for soft sounds and positive thoughts.
This summer, come to The West Woods’ charming, newly renovated Affelder House to create pieces that will bring the same kind of peace to your home.
To create a wind chime from objects including kiln-fired clay leaves, shells, wood, crystals and glass beads, register for the “Listening to the Wind” Windchime Workshop on Saturday, July 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A fee of $24 covers materials and instruction by artist Joan Rusek. Ages 16 and up, please.
To create a dyed silk Dreamcatcher from vine to dye, register for the “Harvesting Good Dreams” Dreamcatcher Workshop on Sunday, September 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. Artists here will use locally homegrown Concord grapes to prepare the dye then, while the silk is drying, create three hanging strands made of Lake Erie drift wood, seed pods, branches, leaves, shells, bells, mirrors, ribbons, flowers, beads, and of course feathers! Bring your own special treasure such as a button, pin, stone or crystal to add, if you wish. A fee of $22 covers materials, snacks and fresh-squeezed grape juice, and instruction by artist RobinAnne Ralls Payne. Ages 7 and up, please, but participants ages 7-10 should bring an adult to assist.
Affelder House is fully wheelchair accessible. Registration is open now at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org under Find a Program/Event or call 440-286-9516; also call that number with questions.
