What do you get when you cross a Fringe Festival with the Snow Capital of Ohio? The 3rd annual “heART of Geauga Arts Jam”, hosted by the Geauga Council for Arts and Culture and the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, held on Chardon Square, June 27  from noon until 9:30 pm.

The Arts Jam is a showcase for the arts featuring more than 100 artists and performers. The day will include workshops and family-friendly activities such as face painting, acrobatics, storytelling, juggling, the popular Graffiti Wall for kids and much more. “Arts Jam has become a part of the Chardon arts calendar, with a unique focus on performance and audience participation.” said Madelon Horvath, president of the GCAC.  “There are lots of places and events you can go to view art. At Arts Jam you can also experience the process, try new things and explore your own creativity.”

Organizations joining the fun include The Geauga Library, Fairmount Center for the Performing Arts, and The Geauga Park District.  This year participants can learn to clog dance, paint original silk scarves, do Zentangle art, and create unique photos using Instagram. The Geauga Music Center will host the popular ‘instrument petting zoo’ where you can try out that instrument you always wanted to play! All afternoon events are free or of nominal charge.

The Jam will continue into the evening with a special event at the historic Geauga Theater. Around the World in 80 Days, produced by GLTG and directed by Angela Miloro-Hansen, will be performed at 7:30 pm. Cameo performances by local dignitaries will be included  in the classic Jules Verne story.  All seats are $6 and tickets can be purchased at the GLTG box office (440-286-2255) or online at www.geaugatheater.org.

Financial sponsors for the 2015 event include The Burr Funeral Home and Junction Auto Family. “Chardon Square businesses are excited to participate in Arts Jam, because it draws new visitors to town and new customers to shops. The arts in Chardon are about community-building. A vital cultural life is just as necessary to a great community as are a strong economy, a beautiful physical environment, and great schools.”, said Chardon Square Association President, Tom Bryant.

Arts Jam is collaboration. The organizers welcome volunteers to help with planning and execution of this year’s jam. For more information, visit the website: www.chardonartsjam.org or contact the Jam via email at:info@chardonartsjam.org.
