Gage Green and Christin Dornback have been selected as September’s Student-Athletes of the Month.
Green, the goalkeeper on the boys soccer team, helped lead the Badgers to a 5-4 month for September. One of the best goalkeepers in the area, Gage had many acrobatic saves to help either the Badgers stay in the game or help secure a lead. For his efforts this season, Gage was named a 1st Team All CVC Member and will play in the Ohio Varsity All-Star Soccer match at Spire on November 9.
Gage plans on going to school wherever he can to play soccer. Some of Gage’s favorite things include the color purple, chili dogs, and the TV show “The Walking Dead.” His favorite athlete is Gareth Bale, a winger for the La Liga team Real Madrid. His favorite school subject is internet programming, and he hopes to turn that into a career as a database administrator.
Dornback has been the overall best Badger girl runner so far this year. She was the first Badger girl to cross the finish line at Tiffin, Boardman, and Columbiana during the month of September. She continues to have a successful junior year by recently helping the Badgers to 2nd place finishes at both the CVC Championship and the Div III OHSAA District Meet.
Christin, being only a junior, has not decided on a college yet. “Chris,” as her friends call her, enjoys English class during the school day, and watching the Harry Potter movie series when she can. Her favorite food is chicken parm and froyo (although hopefully not together), and her favorite color is seafoam green. Dornback’s favorite athletes are Jordan Hasay, Alexi Pappas, and Mary Cain, all of whom are distance runners. Some of Christin’s hobbies include sleeping, eating, procrastinating, and running…a lot. A hidden talent that she possesses is the ability to shatter iPhones at an alarming rate.
She hopes to travel one day, and when asked what her dream job would be, she jokes “Trophy Wife or Disney Princess.” Good luck in those departments!
The Student-Athletes of the Month are nominated by the varsity head coaches and then voted on by all of the Berkshire head coaches as well as the faculty and staff of the high school. Other athletes nominated this month were Ben Blechschmid (football), David Pelletier (boys cross country), Katie Dingman (volleyball), Katie Paul (girls soccer), and Lisa Marcy (cheerleading).
